WaterKiosk £ Boreal Light Partnership

Waterkiosk and its German affliate, Boreal Light embarked on an Integrated approach, where there exists a project for water desalination, then the following are added: crop farming, fish farming, and sanitation services all mutually integrated and utilizing barely all the by-products.
Project concept
  1. Utilizes the by-products which would have otherwise been wasted. Farming techniques and practices that use locally available and cheap materials, which can be easily replicated.
  2. Use of limited available space e.g backyard garden, perimeter walls among other unutilized spaces to produce crops
  3. Production of crops with efficient use of limited water resources either in urban setting or rural setting, wastewater management, organic farming practices etc
  4. Use of organic farming practices for crop production that eliminates the use of chemicals through use of Integrated Crop Management (ICM) and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) systems e.g using natural herbs and repellants (mint, spring onions, chilies and other crops) that naturally repel insects.
  5. Environmental conservation through proper management of household wastes, employing practices producing economically and viable foods, and that do not affect natural resources
  6. Extra source of income and creation of direct and indirect employment. The vertical farm and the fishpond employ 2 people directly and over 10 people indirectly in the supply and distribution chain
